Discourse Community Presentation
-Towards the end of the semester, my U-Write class conducted a project that evaluated the different discourse communites around the UNCC campus. Some examples include, sports teams, clubs, organizations, etc. My group consisted of three people, including me and two other girls. We decided to focus on the aspects of intermural volleyball. It was a little easier for me to conduct this research becuase of my knowledge of the game already as well as my experience with team we interviewed. When talking about discourse community, my teacher Ms. Agosta talked about how each group should incorperate the different aspects of what you see when interviewing an individual as well as what you hear and find when observing the group in question. In your jottings and descriptions there should be information that shows themes, genres, lexis, and other viable descriptions that are important to the presentation.

Road to Literacy

Reflection:
-Typically, when trying to find out significant events in my past, more than likely school would be the general answer. However, I tried to look past the idea of teachers and school books to be my primary source. In class, we read a lot of literacy narratives that showed the different challenges and motivations one has to go through in order to gain their literacy goals. When making my literacy map I found that my family as well as my high school experiences helped me to become who I am today. With the help of my nana (who could barely speak English), my fellow teammates and coaches, and my access to interviews I was able to strengthen my literacy knowledge. I was able to further explore the boundaries of my access to literacy because in the end I found that my past was very significant. In the future, I hope to pin point one general attribute to my overall conventions of knowledge in reading. I want to find the one thing that helped me be who I am today. The way I talk, the way I act, the way I dress; everything is a factor.
I was very excited to do this project becuase I love talking about myself. I know it may seem a little cocky but that is not what I am trying to portray. I actually just like talking about my culture becuase it is very important to me and my family. When doing this project I was able to focus on the multimodal purposes of this artifact. I wanted to make it appealing to the eye as well as serve a general meaning to the public or whoever happened to see my timeline. I had used the site (Tiki Toki) to represent my story in a way of theme and creativity. This shows not only one of the SLO's of composing process but my rhetorical knowldge to understand audience, context, design, and technology.

Literacy Narrative Paper
Reflection:
-To the left of the screen is an essay that I had wrote about my pathway to my literacy knowledge, also known as literacy narrative. The essay had to talk about the past in which each individual had to go through to reach their literacy potential. Whether it be based on family, education, or lifestyle each person had their own path as to how they got there. I chose to write my narrative about my culture growing up in a very diverse household as well as being in very competetive situations involving sports. Each explain how I am today becuase both are very important to me. They explain me a reader, writer, how I talk, act and percieve myself to be. In the end, this assignment helped me to gain knowledge about myself I did not fully understand. Such as the way I am always wanting to win and always be right. This journey helped inevitably become a better writer and reader throughout the course of this semester in U-Write class.
