Different people consider reading and writing to be an art formed through the process of discourse communities. However, in many cases one might become confused as to what discourse community is and how it differs from speech community. Genre as Swales is very important because it defines a certain writing or piece. In my case, by depicting, genre, I am able to understand the writing or reading because I can compare it to other similar pieces, making it much easier to read.

Within this article it also talks about the acts of different discourse communities involving the mechanisms of common goals and genres.

With me, I am involved in many as you so call it "discourse communities". I am involved in OAS (organization of African American Students), Habitat for Humanity, Club Soccer, Intermural Volleyball, and Emerging Leaders. I also have a job, coaching volleyball to high school kids. Being involved with these different types of groups, I have had to act, talk, and become a certain person. I had to become a leader, a friend, a participant, a player, a coach, anything to be the best I can be in any community I was involved in.
